Open Enrollment in the WA Healthplanfinder is from November 1, 2016 – January 31, 2017. If you recently had a qualifying life event, like getting married or growing your family, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. This means you can enroll in or change your health insurance plan now. Most Special Enrollment Periods last 60 days from the date of the qualifying life event.
Qualifying Life Events that create a special enrollment need include:
Having, adopting, or placement of a child
Losing other health coverage (for example due to a job loss, divorce, loss of eligibility for Medicaid or CHIP, expiration of COBRA coverage, or a health plan being decertified).
Note: Voluntarily quitting other health coverage or being terminated for not paying your premiums are not considered loss of coverage. Losing coverage that is not minimum essential coverage is also not considered loss of coverage.
Relocation to a new zipcode, county or state
Release from incarceration
Changes to citizenship or immigration status
Must be able to provide documentation of any Qualifying Life Event for review. You may also be asked to submit additional verification of your Qualifying Life Event. Required documentation can be uploaded online through their Healthplanfinder account or can be sent to HBE by fax, mail, or email.
